Today I secured two commissions from the brilliant Humans Invent. Really looking forward to working with them, and particularly checking out some stunning stained glass windows coming out of Clockwork Studios in South London.

CRUSHED BEAKS and TORCHES celebrate the release of their split single, on which each band covers the other.

Both bands will be playing live, along with very special guests I CHING.

Crushed Beaks appeared on countless ‘ones to watch for 2012’ lists, their beautifully scuzzy debut single ‘Close-Ups’/’Sun Dogs’ having won the internet towards the end of last year.

Torches, meanwhile, are set to build on a handful of spectacular live performances at the likes of Swn and Binnacle - all flailing limbs, doom-laden organ and ear-worm guitar lines.

The two bands will be ably assisted by Guardian New Band of the Day favourites I Ching, whose glistening yet dour melodicism has marked them out as one of 2012’s most exciting prospects.

Shut Up And Play The Hits – LCD Soundsystem / Pulse Films:

On April 2^nd, 2011, LCD Soundsystem played a triumphant farewell show at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. James Murphy, the enigmatic head of LCD made the call to disband one of the most influential and respected bands of a generation, just as their popularity sky-rocketed, ensuring the band would go out at the top following the biggest show of their lives. Exactly the way it should be.

‘Shut Up And Play The Hits’, set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan 22^nd, documents the 48 hour period before, during and after the career defining concert, which was described by New York magazine as “a marvel of pure craft”.

Directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace with Spike Jonze and Matthew Libatique [nominated for ‘Black Swan’] behind the cameras, the trailer alone tugs at the heartstrings with what promises to be a moving piece of filmmaking. Melancholic shots of Murphy, euphoric crowd sequences and that soundtrack; ‘Shut Up and Play The Hits’ looks set for cult status, to be treasured for years to come.

Over the decades, while LIFE magazine published dozens of photo essays by the 20th century’s greatest photographers, few combined the raw intensity and technical brilliance of Larry Burrows’ seminal “One Ride With Yankee Papa 13″ — widely seen as the single greatest photographic achievement to emerge from the war in Vietnam.

April 1923: Crowds at the turnstiles before the FA Cup Final between West Ham United and Bolton Wanderers at Wembley Stadium, aka the White Horse Final. It was the first final to be held at the newly completed venue, with an estimated attendance of at least 200,000.

Flawed genius. Did not agree with the techniques used against Joe Frazier but there is no denying this man was and is special. Well worth a watch.

Guildford is a terribly dreary place, described by many as ‘quaint’. It sits conveniently between Portsmouth and London on one of the nation’s busiest roads (the A3 since you ask) and is called ‘home’ by hoards of 4×4 owners, all boasting 2.4 privately educated children, a cosy villa in Spain and a mutt called Monty. Zzzzz.
